Comparative phylogeography

Comparative phylogeography of Zambezian region in Southeastern Africa using small mammals as a model

One of the main aims of the project is to compare the patterns of genetic variation of ecologically similar groups of rodents (i.e. comparative phylogeography). Based on the results collected during the first two years (especially after taxonomic revisions of collected material using genetic approaches – see below), this phylogeographic approach is used mainly in rodents distributed in mountain forests and in lowland savanna habitats (in both Zambezi and Somali-Maasai regions). In the first 3 years of the project, we collected data on particular species that are now successively analysed and put into the format of manuscripts. We expect more profound meta-analysis in the last year of the project.
