Post-doc Researchers

Since 2012, three post-doc researchers have participated in the running projects:

  • Jan Šklíba, Ph.D. (Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia) – is an expert on studies on activity of subterranean rodents in the field. [ResearchGate]
  • Matěj Lövy, Ph.D. (Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia) – is an expert on studies on activity of subterranean rodents in the field. ResearchGate
  • Ema Hrouzková, Ph.D. (Department of Zoology, Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia) – is an expert on diverse morphological and behavioral analysis of subterranean rodents, especially those related to communication (seismic, vocal etc.)

PhD students

In 2014, four PhD students are continuing their work on the various research tasks related to the biology of subterranean rodents:

  • Jan Okrouhlík (Department of Physiology, University of South bohemia) – key PhD student; PhD. thesis: “Metabolism and thermoregulation in African mole-rats”. He is an expert in ecophysiology cooperating with us since several years in research on diverse aspects of ecophysiology of subterranean rodents
  • Ondřej Kott (University of South Bohemia) – PhD. Thesis: “Visual capabilities in subterranean rodents”. His research projects are focused on sensory biology of African mole-rats and he is interested in mole-rats visual system regression, visual capabilites and role of residual vision of subterranean rodents in the evolutionary context
  • Tereza Vlasatá (University of South Bohemia) – key PhD. studemt; PhD. thesis: “Ecology and activity of the fossorial rodent Giant mole rat Tachyoryctes macrocephalus“. She studies various aspects of the biology of the giant mole rat and its impact on a pristine Afroalpine habitat in Ethiopia
  • Lucie Pleštilová (University of South Bohemia) – key PhD. student, PhD. title: “Ear morphology in fossorial rodents”. She is interested in how degree of ear morphology in low-frequency hearing depends on the level of fossoriality.
  • Nela Mladěnková (University of South Bohemia) – PhD. thesis: “…”. She focuses on studies using probes measuring physiological parameters in subterranean rodents in lab.
